An unidentified Gun Man attacked a subway train with smoke and shot numerous people on Tuesday, leaving in his trail multiple wounded persons.

 

Reports from the Officials said the gunfire  wounded at least 10 people and at least 16 in all were injured in some way in the attack that began on a subway train that pulled into the 36th Street Station in the borough’s Sunset Park neighborhood.

 

According to New York Fire Department Acting Commissioner, Laura Kavanagh “Five people were in critical condition”



 

A train rider’s video shows smoke and people falling over each other in a bid to leave a subway car. Wails erupt as passé run for the exit. In the video, an individual fell to the ground and another screams “Call 911” 

 

In other videos and photos from the scene, people tended to bloodied commuters, some amidst what could be said to be puddles of blood.

 

An eyewitness named Sam Carcamo, in a conversation with Radio Station 1010 WIINS says “My subway door opened into calamity. It was smoke and blood and people screaming” 

 

Preliminary information indicated that the gunman filled the train with smoke and opened fire on the passengers. He was reportedly a Black male, 5'5" tall, with a heavy build. Wearing a green construction-type vest and a grey hooded sweatshirt," Keechant Sewell, the New York City Police Commissioner, told reporters on Tuesday. 

 

She added there are no known explosive devices on the subway train and the attack is not being probed as an act of terrorism. 

 

Do note that this incident in Brooklyn occurred a day after United States President Joe Biden announced new gun control measures.

 

In response to this case, President Biden has been briefed on the latest developments regarding the New York City subway shooting,” Jen Psaki, Mr. Biden’s press secretary said in a statement. “White House senior staff are in touch with Mayor Adams and Police Commissioner Sewell to offer any assistance as needed.”

 

Mr. Garland, the Attorney General “has received a preliminary briefing and is monitoring the situation in Brooklyn,” his spokeswoman said.

 

New York Mayor Eric Adams, who is isolated following a positive COVID-19 test on Sunday, said in a video statement that the city "will not allow New Yorkers to be terrorized, even by a single individual."

 

The incident happened on a subway line that runs through south Brooklyn in a neighborhood predominantly home to Hispanic and Asian communities and about a 15-minute train ride to Manhattan.
